Akim Manso (E/R), July 12, GNA – The Asene Manso Akroso District Assembly has presented support items to 75 members from three unions under the Ghana Federation of the Disabled in the Eastern Region.
The items worth GHȼ80,000.00, included amongst others, sewing machines, refrigerators, deep freezers, hair dryers and an undisclosed start-up cash to assist them to establish their own businesses.
The beneficiaries were from the Ghana Blind Union, Ghana National Association for the Deaf and the Ghana Society of the Physically Disabled.
Mr Alex Incoom, the District Chief Executive of the Assembly, said the items were purchased with monies from the District Assembly Common Fund and urged the beneficiaries to make good use of them.
Mr Obeng Asare, the National Chairman of the Ghana Federation of the Disabled, expressed gratitude to the Assembly for the gesture and commended government for increasing the PWDs’ fund from two to three percent.
He urged the leadership of the three unions to ensure that the beneficiaries manage the items judiciously and use the donation for their stated purpose.
