Kumasi, Dec 31, GNA - The National House of Chiefs (NHC) has appealed to the people to unite their efforts to bring change and make things better for everybody.
The traditional rulers said they were confident that with unity of purpose and hard work the nation would overcome the economic difficulties and be ushered into a period of prosperity and real progress.
This was contained in a New Year goodwill message to the people signed by the acting Registrar, Mr. A. K Essien, in Kumasi.
It reminded all to continue to uphold the peace and to show love for their neighbors and their country.
The chiefs expressed satisfaction with the love and peace demonstrated during the Christmas and asked that these values permeated their every activity in the New Year.
They appealed for active interest and participation in the coming district level elections and counseled that voter apathy must be avoided.
“We should all note that if the district assemblies, which are the base of our political governance, are weak there is the likelihood that local governance will not be deeply noted for effective development,” the statement said.
The message also appealed to chiefs to lead their people to keep the environment clean to reduce outbreak diseases.
