Accra, June 14, GNA - incumbent President of the National Association of Local Authorities of Ghana (NALAG), Felix Mensah Nii Annang-La, appears to be cruising to an easy victory in the on-going election by NALAG to choose new executives.
On Thursday, the scent of a landslide was all over the place when Nii Anang-La, who is also the Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE) for Tema, accounted for his stewardship before delegates in Sunyani.
Having inherited his current incumbency from his predecessor MCE at Tema, Mr Isaac Ashai Odamtten, and served only half of the tenure of Odamtten, Nii Annag-La left delegates dumbfounded with what he has been able to do in the short period.
Among others, he has helped to clear many lawsuits that were bogging the Association down and also helped secure logistics to smoothen the work of Assembly Members.
Outstanding among his achievements, per delegates, however, was his quick marshal of motorcycles for Assembly Members across the country recently through a hard lobby that Assembly Members say they have never seen before.
At Sunyani, delegates, who are also Assembly Members, gave him a standing ovation when he finished accounting for his stewardship.
These Assembly Members would later break out victory songs for the incumbent President, bringing the conference to a temporal halt.
Due to the behaviour of the Assembly Members, Bismark Nkum, DCE for Gomoa West, who is contending with him Annang-La for the Presidency, was totally overshadowed.
Assembly Members would later also promise in interviews, that they would retain their incumbent President to enable him complete a programme that he has started for NALAG.
Also, exit polls have since suggested that Nii Annang-La will win the polls with at least, 70 per cent the votes.
The conference also hosted Mr. Kwamena Bartels, Board Chairman for GOIL. Mr. O.B Amoah Deputy Minister for Local Government and Mr. Kwame Osei Prempeh, a member of Board of Directors of GOIL.
Dr. Richard Fiadomor, a former presiding member and a lecturer at the Regional Maritime University said “ Felix Mensah Nii Annang-La, apart from his excellent performance as NALAG President, has a good rapport with MMDCEs and Assembly members, so mega victory for him is a foregone conclusion”.
