Kumasi, July 12, GNA - The National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS) has congratulated Saint Augustine’s College for emerging the ultimate winners of this year's National Science and Mathematics Quiz (NSMQ) Competition.
A statement signed by Mr Tinkaro Asare Osei, its President and copied to the Ghana News Agency (GNA), said “the St. Augustine's College after battling dozens of competitors in the fiercely-contested competition deserves laurels for exhibiting knowledge and a captivating performances, as well as proper sportsmanship”.
The statement also commended the organizers, teachers as well as the scholarly teams that competed in this year's event from all across the country.
“NUGS expresses appreciation for the success of this competition and hopes the major interest generated would refocus and redefine attitudes in strengthening science and mathematics education in Ghana.
“The keenly contested National Science and Maths Quiz which is Ghana's foremost academic competition always gives insight into the state of science and mathematics education,” the statement said.
The statement said it was becoming more evident that the event was gaining increasing success over the years and that called for the need to encourage more schools to strengthen science and mathematics education as well as other spheres of knowledge, to put more students in a better poise to compete.
