Teong (U/E) June 14, GNA – Mackillop Catholic College in Warnervale in Australia on Friday donated educational materials to the Teong Primary School at Teong in the Tempane District of the Upper East Region.
The items, which included pencils, pens, story and exercise books, footwear, slightly used clothing among others, were gifts from Mrs Mavis Gyamfi, a Ghanaian teacher based in Australia and teaching at the Mackillop Catholic College.
At a brief ceremony to present the items on behalf of Mrs Gyamfi, Mr Vitus Apiiyah, a Ghanaian based in Australia, thanked Mackillop Catholic College for the kind gesture, and urged the pupils to make good use of the materials.
He disclosed that the College presented similar items to the Zanlerigu Primary School in the Nabdam District of the Region in May last year to improve on quality education.
Mr Apiiyah appealed to other philanthropists and institutions to come to the aid of schools in the region to improve on teaching and learning.
The items were distributed personally by Mr Apiiyah and his team with support from the school teachers to the visibly happy pupils, some of whom were bare footed and in tattered school uniforms.
Mr Issah Agubil Awudu, the Assistant Headmaster of the Teong Primary School said the presentation of the materials were timely, and would be of immense help to the pupils.
The pupils expressed profound gratitude to families and individuals from the Mackillop Catholic College community in Warnervale for the gesture and promised to put them to good use.
The Senior Prefect of the school, Master Ayam Adeck who spoke on behalf of his colleagues prayed for the donors and appealed to individuals, institutions, groups and families in Warnervale to assist the school and pupils with an Information Communication Technology (ICT) laboratory to be in tune with the world.
