Sunyani, May 4, GNA – The first batch of beneficiaries of the Online Digital Marketing and Entrepreneurship Programme have passed out after 16 weeks of intensive training on Digital Media Management to optimise their marketing efforts and create new opportunities.
197 out of the 245 beneficiaries, selected from the various municipalities and districts in the Brong-Ahafo Region, passed the assessment exercise and received a tablet each from the National Youth Authority (NYA).
The NYA launched the programme, which targets young people between the ages of 15 and 35 years in 2017, to equip them with the requisite technology-driven entrepreneurial skills to use social media effectively to market their products and services.
At the closing ceremony in Sunyani on Thursday, Mr Emmanuel Sin-Nyet Asigri, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the NYA, said the programme targeted more than 3,000 youth to train them in Information and Communication Technology (ICT) by December 2018.
Mr Asigri said the training exposed the beneficiaries to Mobile App Programming to acquire basic technical skills in ICT to develop, promote, and sell local products online.
Satisfied with the performance of the participants, the CEO said applications for the next batch of the training would be opened in July and advised prospective applicants to visit the NYA’s website and register.
He urged the participants to apply the knowledge acquired by using the tablets to explore online job opportunities and showcase their potentials and activities.
The beneficiaries expressed appreciation to the NYA and the Government for the training, which, they said, had created opportunities for them to use the internet efficiently.
Michael Kata Bosompem, a beneficiary from Bomaa in the Tano North District, appealed to government to continue to support and sustain the programme to benefit other unemployed graduates.
Leticia Tabuaah, a Senior High School graduate, said she sold fresh Tilipia and that the training had empowered her to sell the fishes online, which had increased her income.
“My customer base has increased tremendously as they always placed orders online, and I am very thankful to the Government for giving me this opportunity to learn ICT,” she said.
