Accra, July 04, (dpa/GNA) - Pope Francis will
on Friday celebrate a special mass for migrants in St Peter's Basilica, the
Vatican announced in a statement.
The service will mark the fifth anniversary of Francis' visit to Lampedusa, the Italian migrant-hosting island where he made his first official trip as pope.
The July 6 mass, to be attended by about 200 people, including some refugees, will be "a moment of prayer for the dead, for the survivors and for people looking after them," the Vatican said on Wednesday.
The pope is the son of Italian emigrants to Argentina, and has often spoken up for the rights of migrants, urging governments to be more open to them.
