By Angela Ayimbire, GNAAccra, March 17, GNA - Mr Kurt Okraku, the chairman of the MTN FA Cup Committee, has said it is appropriate for second and third tier teams to play on their own pitches during the FA Cup preliminary round.
He emphasized that, it is a way for people to know the kind of pitches that produced Ghanaian elite players.
"Where we have a fixture with two division two clubs, we allow them to play on their local pitches, because we need the local people to also follow the sports”.
"We also want Ghanaians to see the kind of pitches on which, we produced our super stars such as Micheal Essien, Abedi Ayew Pele and others.
"They all played on poor pitches and we want people to give those pitches some attention. It’s a two prone strategy, that we have deployed and we hope to achieve that target and deliver good football on good pitches”, he added.
The Ghana Football Association (GFA), Executive Committee member also commented on Madagascar’s Ahmad Ahmad’s victory over Issa Hayatou as CAF president, saying "football on the continent had been polluted and needs a new puff of air and that comes with change in leadership."
"We are looking forward to new ideas and fresh winds to blow on the continent.
"It is very clear that the game on the African continent needs more money, and in reference to the just ended African Cup of Nations. It is obvious that we have poor facilities, medical challenges and less attention for the players to show us what they’ve got." He noted.
He said, “When we go for elections, we offer opportunities to CAF to speak their minds and they have decided that there is a need for change in leadership and we cannot change the wish of the people and I am so happy about it”, he expressed.
