Accra, Feb. 28, GNA -
The Ghana Karate Association (GKA) held the 12th edition of the National
Karate-do Open championship, designed to select a formidable national team to
participate in the Africa Karate Championship in Gabon in April.
The Championship held at the Accra Sports Stadium (Hathramani Hall) will see the first three positioned in each weight category secure a place in the national team.
The championship witnessed athletes across the country in their quest to be selected as representatives to win laurels for Ghana in the Africa championship, organized by the Union of Africa Karate.
The President of GKA Mr. Melvin Brown cautioned the athletes against complacency ‘‘the first three will be selected from each category. Because we need good materials to represent the country and we need training materials too.
‘‘The national director will select his national team and start training ahead of the championship. But if you are selected and you relent on your effort to do better, you will be dropped and your position will be taken by another person’’.
The president noted that, though he is impressed with the karatekas performance, he believes they (karetekas) can still improve on their performance to raise high the flag in the continental championship.
With about 18 contingent including athletes and officials, Mr. Brown called on corporate entities to support the discipline to ensure their participation in the up-coming competition.
