Cape Coast, Sept. 12, GNA - Mali and Nigeria progressed to the group stage of the ongoing WAFU tournament after winning their respective matches.
Match day three recorded six goals, as Mali and Nigeria defeated Mauritania and Sierra Lone 3-1 and 2-0 respectively.
The first game saw Mali take the lead thanks to a strike from Mandala Konte, but that was soon cancelled out by Mauritania’s Samba Cheikh.
The game looked to be heading towards a stalemate but two goals from Moussa Kone in the 88th and 91st minutes handed Mali the win.
The second game was very similar and also looked to be heading for a draw, but again late goals from Moses Okoro and Moses Peter, scored in the 85th and 87th minute respectively, saw Nigeria walk away victorious.
Day four of the WAFU Cup of Nations will produce another double-header at the Cape Coast Sports Stadium with Cote d’Ivoire taking on Togo at 15:00 hours and Benin up against Cape Verde at 18:00 hours, all on Tuesday.
