Accra, Oct. 12, GNA - The Black Satellites of Ghana defeated host India by four goals to nil to advance to the round of 16 of the ongoing Federation of International Football Association (FIFA) U-17 World Cup in India.
The match played at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, in New Delhi on Thursday, saw Captain Eric Ayiah bagging a brace, with Richard Danso and Emmanuel Toku scoring a goal each to send Ghana to the next stage of the tourney.
The win puts Ghana on six points with four goals difference to top Group A ahead of Colombia and USA also on six points but separated by goal difference with India exiting the tournament with no point after three group matches.
In the early stages of the match, India managed to hold the Starlets at bay for most part of the first half, but Ayiah, Captain of the Starlets fired his side ahead with a brilliant kick with just two minutes left of the half.
The goal came as a result of Sadiq Ibrahim attempt at goal, which saw Dheeraj Moirangthem punching his shot away but Ayiah connected the rebound to register the first goal.
Ayiah added his second in the 52nd minute when he slotted home with his left foot from inside the penalty area.
From recess, the two-time world champions looked composed and dictated the pace, which paid off with Danso and Toku completing the 4-0 mauling in 86th and 87th to qualify the country comfortably to the next stage.
Ghana joins neighbour’s Mali from Group B to qualify to the next round.
