Accra, Sept. 5, GNA - Victor Wanyama, captain
of the national football team of Kenya, the Harambee Stars, would not be
available for the crucial Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), qualifier against the
Black Stars of Ghana, due to injury.
The Tottenham Hotspur midfielder, Wanyama, according to information gathered by the GNA Sports, would not be available for the Group “F” qualifier against Ghana at Kasarani Stadium, in Nairobi, Kenya after an ankle injury with his English side.
Wanyama, who was included in the 38-man provisional squad by head coach Sébastien Migné barely two weeks after suffering a recurrence of a knee injury in Spurs’ pre-season tour early last month in USA, was desperately worked on by the medical team, but failed to pass the fitness test.
Mr. Barry Otieno, Communications Manager of Kenya Football Federation (KFF) confirmed the absence of the midfielder in the crucial game and described it as a big blow to their campaign.
enya desperately needs Wanyama to be fit as they seek for their first victory after falling 2-1 to Sierra Leone in the first round clash in June last year.
According to information gathered by GNA Sports, Kenyan began training with local based players, at the Utalii Grounds.
However, Mr Otieno, is convinced they were capable of securing victory over Ghana, to enhance their chances of progressing to the 2019 AFCON.
