Accra, Sep.10, GNA - Omar Sise, head coach of the Gambian local national team has blamed referee Boukari Ouedraogo for his side's 1-0 defeat to Ghana in the opening game of the Fox WAFU Cup of nations at the Cape Coast Sports Stadium.
With two minutes of the additional time left to play, the Burkinabe referee awarded a spot kick to the Ghanaians which coach Sise believes was a wrong decision.
Speaking to the press after the game, the fuming Gambian coach said the middle man gifted Ghana a spot kick to enable the host nation to progress to the next round of the competition.
"We were eliminated from the competition not because of our performance but because of the referee's poor decision.
"Our strategy was to frustrate the Ghanaians and progress to the next round of the competition.
"We held them till the 94th minute only for the referee to award a penalty from nowhere, it was clearly not a penalty.
"I am not disappointed because everyone saw that we were the better side and we are going home because of the referee's wrongful penalty to Ghana," Coach Omar Sise said.
The Black Stars B, the defending champions, by the victory, qualifies to the Group stage of the competition.
