Tamale, Dec. 6, GNA - A forum has been held for the youth and young farmers to introduce them to agricultural mechanization and financing as part of efforts to increase production and incomes.
The forum was also to attract the youth to the agricultural sector to take advantage of the opportunities to create their own wealth.
It was held in Tamale on Wednesday by Trotro Tractor in partnership with AgroAfrica as part of the ongoing Agric Fair in Tamale heralding the National Farmers’ Day celebrations slated for Friday, December 7, in the Northern Regional capital.
Participants were introduced to technologies including Trotro Tractor, which involves the use of Global Positioning System trackers to connect farmers to tractor services, the use of drones to spray farms and shelling technologies, which have made farming easy.
Mr Emmanuel Ansah-Amprofi, Chief Operating Officer of Trotro Tractor, who made a presentation on the Trotro Tractor technology, told the youth that there are many opportunities in the agricultural sector that they could tap into to improve productivity.
Mr Ansah-Amprofi said increased productivity would result in reduced importation and thereby strengthen the country’s currency and the economy for the benefit of all.
Mr Osmond Amuah, Senior Branch Manager, Stanbic Bank, Tamale Branch, told the youth that the bank is ready to support the agricultural sector and urged them to approach it with their proposals for support to increase agricultural production.
Some of the youth expressed their desire to venture into agriculture but appealed for flexible financial packages to support their operations.
