Nsawam (E/R) Dec. 4, GNA - Mr Isaac Kwadwo Buabeng, the Nsawam-Adoagyiri Municipal Chief Executive has advised the youth to stay away from cigarettes and Marijuana (wee) smoking and alcohol to save themselves from diseases.
He said smoking and drinking of alcohol impair one’s judgment and could lead to indiscriminate indulgence in sexual activities leading to diseases such as HIV and AIDS.
Mr Buabeng gave the advice in an interview with the Ghana News Agency during the commemoration of World AIDS Day celebration at Afutu Park, in the Nsawam-Adoagyiri Municipality of the Eastern Region, attended by traditional rulers, assembly members, non-governmental organisations and school children.
He commended Mr Seth Densu and Mr Prince Agyekum, both Director and Deputy Director, respectively of the Young Youth Foundation International in Accra, for collaborating with the Assembly and the AIDS Commission to organise the Day.
Mr Kofi Boateng-Acheampong, the Nsawam-Adoagyiri Municipal Coordinating Director in an address advised the youth to take their education serious to become the managers of the country in future.
Mr Peter Kwayire, the Monitoring and Evaluation Officer of the ARK Development Organisation said the organisation would undertake HIV and AIDS awareness programmes in the communities and also support victims.
He said they would also promote access to effective, quality and affordable healthcare by providing logistics and medicines.
