Hohoe (V/R), July 11, GNA - President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has vowed to complete the construction of the stalled eastern corridor road project.
The President spoke of his bad experience on the road and said “we will fix it”.
He was addressing a grand durbar of chiefs from the middle belt of the Volta Region in Hohoe as part of his three-day working visit to the region.
President Akufo-Addo called for the people to give strong backing to the creation of the proposed new regions.
The new regions, he said would make for easy administration, to ensure even development.
He asked that they also embraced the National Identification project and worked together to make it successful.
Mr Kwasi Amoako Atta, Minister for Transport, said the eastern corridor super highway provided the shortest route between southern and northern Ghana, and that, his ministry was in "close discussions" with all seven contractors for the completion of the project.
He announced that work would soon commence on five road projects in the Hohoe Municipality.
Togbega Gabusu VI, Paramount Chief of Gbi, earlier, made an emotional appeal for the completion of the eastern corridor, to end the pain and suffering of the people.
Work on the 670 kilometre road had stalled for years, with portions ridden with gullies and making it difficult for vehicles to use it.
