Tema, July 17, GNA - Registrants of birth and death in the Tema Metropolis stand the risk of being issued with fake certificates due to the infiltration of the Metropolitan Birth and Death Registry by middlemen.
According to information reaching the Ghana News Agency indicates that these middlemen parade themselves as commissioners of the Registry located at various hospitals with an office at the Tema Metropolitan Assembly (TMA).
They approach unsuspecting people who want to register their births and deaths and end up issuing them with fake certificates.
Some of them have since been identified by the Registry and investigations into their activities currently ongoing to gather evidence for them to be prosecuted.
Mr Felix Mensah Nii Anang-La, Tema Metropolitan Chief Executive, has therefore cautioned the public to be aware of such unscrupulous persons parading themselves as Birth and Death Commissioners.
Mr Anang-La also urged the public to immediately report such persons to the Tema Metropolitan Director of Birth and Death or the Tema Metropolitan Coordinating Director for their arrest.
He encouraged the public to transact business with only recognized persons of the Registry to ensure that they receive genuine documents after successfully going through the registration process.
He noted that the TMA in collaboration with the Registry would organize training and development programmes for staff, volunteers and personnel on data collection and client relationship, to enhance their service delivery.
To make registration more accessible to residents, staff of the Registry would in this year organize outreach programmes and mass registration exercises in communities.
