Sunyani, Mar. 31, GNA - There was absolute calm in Sunyani, the Brong-Ahafo Regional capital as churches marked the festivities with Easter conventions and retreats.
The city virtually turned into a ghost town when the Ghana News Agency (GNA) toured some streets in the regional capital on Good Friday.
As at 1000 hours, shops, food joints and restaurants at the central business district were not opened, whilst some popular drinking spots and bars along the principal street of the town were all closed.
The township is a host to church conventions, as worshippers had filled to capacity popular places of social gathering such as the Coronation Park, Victoria Park, Jubilee Park, Nyamaa School Park and Veterans Association of Ghana (VAG) Hall.
From all walks of life, the worshippers comprised all social classes of people including the rich, poor, aged, youth and children and various food vendors, sachet water sellers, and mobile money and credit card vendors had taken advantage of the situation to earn some income.
They had erected temporal structures at the convention grounds to provide services to the worshippers and Security was also tight as most of the grounds, most of the churches had engaged the services of Police personnel for protection.
In an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA), some of the worshippers observed that Easter was a period to reflect on and examine one's spiritual life.
Ebenezer Osei, a member of the Christ Apostolic Church (CAC) that converged at the VAG Hall advised Christians to be faithful to God and rejoice when they were persecuted for righteousness sake and pleaded with Christians to preach the Word of God to unbelievers, saying it was only through the message of the gospel that people could be saved from sin.
Another Christian Sister Holda Ofori, urged Christians to love and be compassionate to unbelievers to be able to share the word of God with them.
She said the vicarious death of Jesus Christ on the cross had brought salvation to all classes of people and advised Christians to share the message with others.
