Accra, Dec. 31, GNA - There were spontaneous celebrations by market women as they dance away 31st December at various markets in the Central Business District in Accra.
A visit by the GNA through Tema Station, CMB, Tudu and Makola, observed that spinners had mounted their stands at various locations in the markets.
Market women danced to the various tunes played by these spinners. Others were seen making sales while dancing.
Some women were dressed in special clothes made for the occasion while others were in various traditional wears with well marched make-ups.
At Tudu, Madam Ajorkor Botwe, a tomato seller, said she was grateful to God for taking care of her and her colleagues.
According to her, she had begun celebrating the day and would continue with a watch night service in the evening.
When asked if the event was the first of its kind, Madam Botwe said it had been a yearly affair.
With regard to sales, Madam Botwe said, sales had general been low but was optimistic that next year, things would improve in order to boost sales.
Naa Ode, a yam seller at Tema Station, said although things had not been rosy during the year, she was happy to be alive, hence the celebration.
Photographers also made use of the occasion by rendering services to the traders.
