April 17, GNA - The Shama District Chief Executive, Mr. Joseph Amoah has called
on Assembly Members to organize regular communal labour in their various
communities to desilt and clear drains to improve upon Sanitation and reduce
He pointed out
that as the rains had set in, it will come with floods, which the district had
its own peculiar challenges so far as drainage was concerned.
The DCE made
the call when he addressed the 4th Session of the 3rd assembly at Shama.
He said it was
pertinent to put in place measures such as the construction of proper drains to
help direct run - off water to prevent the loss of lives and property.
Mr Amoah hinted
that Zoomlion Pest Control Team and the District Environmental Health Unit have
undertaken the first quarter spraying exercise at refuse disposal sites, public
drains and toilets in the komfueku/Ituma, Upper and lower Inchaban, Shama
junction, Shama Apo, Shama Bentir, Shama Etsifi and Dwomo Electoral areas.
inadequate labour force especially males, lack of sanitary tools, inadequate
central refuse containers for proper waste disposal in the district, lack of
vehicles for monitoring and supervision and the untimely payment of salaries to
labourers as factors hindering the progress of sanitation in the Shama
explained that the Assembly would be securing some waste containers this year
to augment what Zoomlion had provided.

provide the assembly with refuse containers and that the additional containers
would help improve upon the sanitation situation in the district.
Ahenakwah, Presiding Member of the Assembly brought to bare the worrying nature
of sand winning, which had intensified in the district.
He said it
would be prudent to put in place pragmatic measures that would streamline the
operations of the sand winners and ensure that the lands were reclaimed.
