Abesim (B/R), June 14, GNA – The National Association of Local Authorities of Ghana (NALAG) has conferred honorary awards on two Assembly Members for their immense contributions towards deepening the local government system in the country.
They were Mr. Stephen B. Kpen, the Assembly Man for Zambokpee Electoral Area, Lawra Municipal Assembly in the Upper West Region and Mrs. Agnes Attayillah, the Assembly Woman for Sue Electoral Area and Presiding Member of the Bolgatanga Municipal Assembly.
The two Assembly Members had represented their constituents and served their respective local assemblies for the past 31 years since the current local government systems was established in 1988.
Each of them received a citation.
Mr. Felix Mensah Nii Anang-La, the President of NALAG presented the citations to the awardees at the 20th biennial National Delegates Conference of NALAG underway at Abesim in the Sunyani Municipality.
He said NALAG appreciated and recognized the contributions of the two Assembly Members and urged them to continue to serve their people and their communities.
The Association also conferred honorary membership on Mr. Kwasi Ameyaw-Cheremeh, the Member of Parliament for Sunyani East for his meritorious services to the growth and development of NALAG.
Mr. Ameyaw-Cheremeh also received a citation as the first honorary member of the Association.
The four-day conference, being attended by Municipal and District Chief Executives, Presiding Officers and Assembly Members was on the theme: "Ghana Beyond Aid: a Paradigm Shift for Sustainable Development, the Role of Local Authorities".
It would elect National Executive Council to steer the affairs of the Association for the next two years.
