Accra, Feb. 19, GNA –
Ms Inger Anderson of Denmark has been nominated as the Executive Director of
the United Nations (UN) Environment Programme.
A statement issued by the UN Office in Accra and copied to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) said the nomination was made by the UN Chief, Antonio Quterres, in consultation with the Chairpersons of the Regional Groups of member states.
Ms Andersen until her new appointment was the Director General of the International Union for Conservation Nature, a post, she has held since 2015.
The statement said she previously occupied various leadership positions at the World Bank and United Nations, most recently, as Vice President of the Middle East and North Africa Region.
Ms Andersen also served as the Vice President for Sustainable Development and Head of the Consultative Group of International Agricultural Research Fund Council.GNA
