GNA Inaugurates five-member internal audit committee

Accra, June 18, GNA – The Ghana News Agency (GNA) has sworn in a five-member audit committee as part of efforts to restructure and ensure prudent use of resources and to enhance service delivery.

The committee, chaired by Mr Kwasi Aduse-Poku, is charged to ensure the effective monitoring of the organisation’s asset utilisation and the implementation of recommendations offered by the Auditor-General and Parliament.

It is also mandated to guide the internal monitoring unit of the organisation as stipulated under the Public financial Management Act, 2016.

Mr Albert Kofi Owusu, General Manager, GNA said the Board and Management were determined to ensure that the Agency operated a sound financial management system through prudent use of its resources.

He said although the Agency was currently plagued with many challenges, it also offered the opportunity to re-examine its role by repositioning to take advantage of the emerging trends and consumer expectation in the news market.

“The GNA is poised for a major transformation of its operations, to harness fully its revenue potentials by leveraging on its wide network of journalists and stringers across the country”.

“We are also in the process of revamping our business operations and introducing new products as well as building strategic partnerships with other local and international media organisations to strengthen our network and outreach”, he added.

He therefore assured the Committee of the Board and Management’s unwavering support to ensure that the organisation’s achieved its goals.

Mr Ransford Agyei, the Acting Director General for Internal Audit Agency (IAA), who swore-in the members of the committee tasked them to discharge their duties with diligence and objectivity to ensure that the image of the organisation was uplifted.

He further tasked them to assist and guide the internal auditing and motoring unit of the Agency to discharge their duties accurately without fear or favour.

“We expect you to be very objective in your dealings and be honest because your integrity and that of the organisation will be at stake”, he noted.

Mr Aduse-Poku, Chairman of the Committee also assured the Board and Management of the Agency of its readiness to discharge its duties diligently and honestly that would inure to the benefit of the organisation.

Other members of the committee included Mr Albert Sam, Madam Josephine Geraldo, Mr Amos Nnison and Dr Kwame Nyamekye.
