Tema, Oct. 10, GNA - The Glorious Vibrations Incorporated has donated copies of the Holy Bible to students and teachers of the Tema Secondary School (TEMASCO) in their bid to promote the reading of the Holy Scriptures among students.
The donation of the 2,780 Bibles is also expected to draw the attention of the students to the need to inculcate moral and spiritual values in their quest for knowledge as a prerequisite for responsible citizenship.
In an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) on the sidelines of the donation on Wednesday, the leader of the organization, Mr Eben Anuwa-Amarh, observed that, “Religion has a way of shaping the values of people, so it doesn’t matter whether you have money or not; whatever you have in this world, if it’s not used in a coherent and humane manner, it can be used to destroy society.”
He added that, “It’s about saying we have somewhere to go after here so our lives shouldn’t be depended on only here but the hereafter.”
He said the idea behind the donation, was to give everybody the opportunity to read the word of God and also to practice it adding “our job as Christians is to spread the word, and the job of the Holy Spirit is to do the conviction.”
He informed that the Christian Community had played a major role in shaping the values of society, “But the more we see vices in society, the more it beholds on us to work harder to ensure that the values are actually changed.”
Mr Anuwa-Amarh, who was also a former student of TEMASCO, said, “By the distribution of the Holy Bibles, we are challenging ourselves that it takes more than just words to spread the gospel.”
He challenged all Christians who had vision to spread the word of God to go ahead and remember that “it isn’t what people say to us here that matters but what God says and thinks about us.”
He admonished parents to recognize that their wards would one day grow up and have roles to play in society, as such they were only passing through their hands. He therefore asked them to instill values and discipline in them, “Because a child or an adult without values is a nuisance to society.”
The Assistant Chaplain and English Teacher of the school, Mrs. Rosemary Agyeiwaa Akomea-Mensah, in appreciating the kind gesture of the organization, said the Holy Bibles would help the students undertake their quiet time, since most of them did not have copies.
She observed that discipline was embedded in moral education, and that once the child was disciplined, excellence was assured, “So they need that to be able to do what they are requested to do so they can perform.”
She advised parents to encourage their children to adhere to moral values, insisting that without morality there was nothing the child could do to prosper adding, “Even in our tradition there are certain moral values that we hold so dear and everybody is encouraged to adhere to them as the bed rock for excellence in everything we do.”
Ms. Gifty Kobi Osei, a student of TEMASCO, was happy for the donations and urged fellow students to read their copies, make it part of them, and imbibe the values espoused in the Holy Scriptures in their lives.
Glorious Vibrations Incorporated is a music ministry founded in 1980 at TEMASCO and had toured the country with the gospel through music. The organization plans to reach other first and second cycle schools in the near future.
Other members of the organization who assisted in the exercise were Mr Dzaba Nyakotey and Madam Florence Benefo with Shiloh Baptist Church, Dawenya and other members of the organization assisting with funds.
