Accra, May 31, GNA - The Forestry Commission on Saturday organised a health and fun games for its stakeholders to foster unity and friendliness towards national development.
The event signifies the importance of togetherness and networking among the industry players to effectively manage the nation’s natural resources.
Mr Andy Osei Okrah, Director of Human Resource at the Commission in an interview with the Ghana News Agency said the event, formed part of the Commission’s 3rd Forestry Week and Greening Ghana Day celebration, under the theme: “Celebrating Our Forest for Sustainable Development”.
He said the event was to increase awareness about the Commission, which is mandated by the constitution to manage the nation’s forest and wildlife resources.
Mr Okrah said the Commission, as part of the celebration, was planting trees across the country to replenish the lost forests.
He said the Commission had organised a colloquium on forest and wildlife resource management to sensitize the public on the need to save the ailing and dying forest.
Mr Okrah said the participating teams included the Lands Commission, Energy Commission, Mineral’s Commission, Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources, Environmental Protection Agency and the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration.
He said the disciplines for the games would include football, table tennis, tug of peace, sack race, lime and spoon race, scrabble, draught and playing cards.
