Kumasi, Oct. 12, GNA - Prof. Opoku Amankwah, Director General of the Ghana Education Service (GES) has inaugurated a five-member Interim Management Committee (IMC) for the Prempeh College in Kumasi.
This follows the dissolution of the school’s governing board last month by the Minister of Education, Dr. Mathew Opoku Prempeh, over its complicity in the sale of school lands to private developers.
The Minister after dissolving the board directed the GES to put in place an Interim Management Committee to oversee the running of the school pending the constitution of a new board.
Members of the IMC includes Prof. Kofi Osei Akuoko, Chairman, Mrs. Mary Owusu Achiaw, the Regional Education Director, Mr. Aaron Attuah Gyau, Headmaster of the school, Mr. Yaw Boafo and Dr. Albert Awuah.
Prof. Amankwah charged members of the board to bring their expertise to bear by supporting the headmaster to run the school effectively to achieve the desired results expected of them.
They should ensure good administration of the school and discipline among staff and students in accordance with the code of conduct of the GES.
He reminded them of the circumstances that led to the dissolution of the previous board and charged them to protect the school lands and other resources from encroachers.
He further urged them not to allow the premises of the school to be used for any form of political and social activities by outsiders without the permission of the GES.
Prof. Akuoko on behalf of the committee thanked the Minister and the GES for the confidence reposed in them and promised to work in the interest of the development of the school.
He said all three members, apart from the headmaster and the Regional Director of Education, were old boys of the school and that guaranteed the commitment to serve the school.
Mr. Gyau, the Headmaster commended the GES and the Ministry for swiftly putting in place the IMC to supervise the running of the school.
