Tongo (U/E), Feb. 12, GNA – The Talensi Traditional Council has called for the government to speed up investigations into the Gbane mine explosion that claimed 17 lives.
This comes amid reports that some people are planning to hit the streets to create confusion.
A press statement signed by Tongraana Kugbisong Nanlebigtang, the Paramount Chief, said the Committee, set up to examine the facts of the incident so as to establish the truth, should move quickly with its work and anybody found blameable, punished.
The miners died from toxic gas inhalation, following an underground mine explosion, about three weeks ago.
The chiefs are worried about what they say is the attempt by “self-appointed leaders and self-seekers” to hide behind the incident to foment trouble in the area.
The statement cautioned such people to have a change of heart in their own interest.
The Council also found it tasteless pronouncements by individuals and groups, seeking to hold the traditional leaders, liable for what happened.
It called for the people to remain calm to sustain the prevailing peace in the area.
