Effiduase (Ash), Dec. 4, GNA - Some youth in Effiduase in the Sekyere East District of Ashanti have come together to form entertainment group and use it as a means of combating the rising crime rate in the township.
Under the name of “Never Broke Again” (NBA), the aim is to mobilize the youth, especially senior and junior high school graduates, provide them with artistic skills to perform and entertain the people in the community.
Mr Morrison Nketiah, Chairman of the group, told the Ghana News Agency that the objective was not only to help unearth talents but also to get majority of the youth in the area busy and turn their minds away from crimes and other social vices, which are increasing in the area.
Reported cases of criminal activities such as rape, stealing, murder and others, involving the youth in Effiduase has increased in recent times.
A third year student of the Effiduase Secondary and Commercial School (EFISCO) was recently murdered by unknown assailants when he sneaked from school to watch an English Premier League match in the town.
Mr Nketiah said the youth have potential which could be tapped to build a prosperous nation.
What was needed was guidance and motivation to help develop these potentials and put them to better use.
He said the group would work with all relevant organizations and stakeholders to train and develop the youth through entertainment to disengage them from social vices and speed up development in the community.
Mr Dennis Agyapong, Financial Secretary, said the group, which would be inaugurated on December 29, would provide opportunities for the youth to learn new things besides what they learnt in school.
He said the group would also embark on educational programmes to sensitize their colleagues to deist from negative attitudes that could put their future lives in danger.
Mr Bright Oduro, the Organizer, said the group which currently has a membership of 40, has the vision to engage the younger people in the area for developmental causes, mobilize resources to support needy ones and make donations to schools and health facilities, especially those in the rural communities.
He said the focus is to promote better image of the youth in the area and urged youth in other communities to come together to initiate programmes that would promote their welfare and development.GNA
