Sunyani, April 17 – GNA - The Brong-Ahafo Regional Police Command has intensified operations to apprehend a gang of armed-robbers who have been terrorising road users and passengers on roads connecting Nkoranza and other parts the country.
Chief Inspector Augustine Kingsley Oppong, the Brong-Ahafo Regional Police Public Relations Officer, confirmed to the Ghana News Agency in Sunyani saying that the Police were receiving distressed calls from passengers of attacks on the roads leading in and out of Nkoranza.
He cited the robbers during one of their operations attacked and robbed a farmer of his single-barrelled gun on his way to farm at Kontonso on the Nkoranza-Ejura road.
On Tuesday, April 9, 2019, the Police had a distressed call from an unknown caller informing them of a robbery incident on the Nkoranza-Nyinase road and the Nkoranza Divisional Police Patrol Team quickly moved to the scene, but the robbers had fled, he added.
Chief Inspector Oppong explained the Patrol Team came across one of the victims, a tractor operator on the road who disclosed that he was robbed of Gh¢65.00 at a gun point by a gang of six armed-robbers.
He said the Assembly Man (AM) of Suoso Electoral Area in the Nkoranza Municipality was also not spared in the attack because after scaring him of two warning shots, the robbers ordered him to alight from his motor bike to lie down and robbed him of unspecified amount of money and Techno mobile phone.
Chief Inspector Oppong said Mr. Kofi Tua, another farmer also reported to the Nkoranza Police that he was robbed of his gun while going to farm the same day at about 0430 hours at the location where the AM had earlier been robbed.
Mr. Tua narrated to the Police that he saw a parked vehicle ahead on the road leading to his farm but thought it had developed fault, adding when he reached that point some armed-men emerged from the vehicle, pounced on and beat him mercilessly and bolted with his gun.
Chief Inspector Oppong advised the general public to be cautious about the tricks and mode of operation of the robbers and also alert the Police about any suspicious character in their area communities and localities for quick response.GNA
