Accra March 8, GNA - The Chief Justice Sophia A. B. Akuffo has tasked District and Municipal assemblies to live up to their responsibility of providing decent accommodation and courtrooms for courts in their areas of jurisdiction.

“I wish to use this opportunity to issue a reminder to District and Municipal assemblies that do not have any or adequate District court rooms and residential accommodation for magistrates that they must live up to their statutory responsibilities so that the Magistrate is also enabled to function as the desired level.”

Ms Justice Akuffo said the issue of providing decent accommodation and courtrooms by the District and Municipal assemblies have been of concern to the judiciary.

She therefore appealed to them to ensure that decent facilities were made available to Magistrates and Judges so that their services could be available as and when required at any given time.

The Chief Justice was speaking at a ceremony where she swore in 11 Magistrates in Accra.

Ms Akuffo said the judiciary was ready to offer the needed inputs for judges to operate effectively and in a safe environment.

She said the judiciary intends to deploy solar energy to all courts especially those that did have constant power supply.

She appealed to the magistrates to adopt case management concepts to decongest their courts.
