Accra, Sept. 15, GNA - Mrs Kate Quartey-Papafio, the Chief Executive Officer of Reroy Cables has urged government to rely on local cables for any electrical and energy project across the country to support local production.
Mrs Quartey-Papafio stated that, such a move would actualize the local content initiative of the government and promote made-in-Ghana products as part of efforts to expand the local economy.
The Chief Executive Officer made the call in an interview with the Ghana News Agency in Accra.
She said the company, which had been a leader in the manufacturing of high quality electrical cables and conductors in the country for the past years, would continue to offer quality and affordable electrical products to the public.
She posited that most of the imported products were of sub-standard quality, which increased the incidence of fires and urged the public to be careful and seek advice from qualified electricians before buying electrical products.
Mrs Quartey-Papafio said the company as part of its social interventions, organised workshops for electrical contractors and certified electrician on the need to use quality electrical cables for wiring.
She expressed worry about the presence of fake electrical products in the market, which contributed in recent fire outbreaks.
“To address the challenges of fake electrical products, the company plan to open more depots in all the districts, urging the public to always check the Ghana Standard Authority label before buying any electrical cables”.
She called on electrical contractors, electricians, retailers, distributors and dealers in all types of electrical products to comply with safety requirements and join stakeholders to deal with product counterfeiting which is a serious issue.
Mrs Quartey-Papafio stated that the company had come out with fire resistant cables, which could withstand the hot weather and any conditions in the country.
“The company would continue to engage the public to use quality electrical cables and accessories for their electrical works to protect their property from fire outbreaks and save their investments”, she added.
