All set for Lucozade Sport Independence Health Walk

Accra, March 4, GNA - All is set for the Lucozade Sport Independence Health Walk scheduled for Saturday, March 6, 2010.

    

The Walk is being organised by Dansoman-based Maximum Gym and Fitness Centre and sponsored by GlaxoSmithKline (GSK), a leading global Pharmaceutical giant.

    

As part of the preparations towards the event, Dotun Somoye, Country Manager of GSK has donated 2000 pieces of T-Shirts to the organisers towards a successful event.

    

Mr Somoye also announced that all participants will receive Lucozade sport drinks during the Walk.

    

Nii Armah Amarteifio, Manager of the Maximum Gym and Fitness Centre told GNA Sports on Thursday that the event is also to climax the 53rd Independence Anniversary celebrations with the aim of sending the message of keeping good health and fitness to the people.

    

He said participation for the event is free and has extended invitation to Keep Fit and Health Clubs in and around Dansoman to contact the organizers for the necessary registration modalities.      

    

About 1000 people are expected to participate in the 25-kilometre walk exercise, which will start at the Maximum Gym and Fitness Centre at Dansoman Sahara, through Obetsebi Lamptey Circle to the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital and terminate at the Ministry of Finance Flats at Dansoman.

    

Dignitaries expected to participate in the Walk include Assistant Commissioner of Police, Kofi Boakye, Deputy Minister of Information, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, former Deputy Minister of Defence - William Ofori Boafo, Chief Executive of Kwatsons Impex - Alex Quartey and Dotun Somoye, Country Manager of GSK.

    

There will also be free Hepatitis "B" screening by MDS-Lancet Medical Laboratories.
