Mampong (Ash), Feb 8, GNA - Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, 2008 Presidential Candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has urged the party to avoid unnecessary distractions as it prepared towards the task of winning back political power in Election 2012.

He said it was important they all accepted at all times and without pre-conditions to do what was right for the party.

Nana Akufo-Addo, who was speaking at a get-together held by the Asante-Mampong Constituency of the NPP, said the party should remain focused and work hard to achieve massive electoral victory.

He said there should not be any doubt that given a united front, there was no way the NPP could not unseat the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) in 2012 to restore confidence and hope to Ghanaians.

The event brought together defeated candidates and elected officers to symbolize the unity of the party after the bitterly contested constituency election.

Nana Akufo-Addo told the euphoric party loyalists and supporters that talks about divisions were untrue but counselled against unhealthy petty squabbles.

He said the NPP as a democratic political organization should ensure that there was greater participation of the members in decisions at all levels.

The MP for the area, Mr Addai-Nimoh, said unity was crucial to the development of every group and urged NPP supporters in the area to see themselves as belonging to one big family.

He said it was through that that they could substantially reduce votes for their opponents in the next election.
