Court fines farmer for breaking Metro Mass bus glass

Tarkwa, May 30, GNA - A Tarkwa Circuit court on Friday fined Collins Addo, a 37-year old farmer GH¢ 360,for damaging a glass of a Metro Mass Transit (MMT) bus.

He pleaded guilty to damaging the glass of the bus at Simpa in the Tarkwa Nsueam Municipality.

In default of the fine, the accused would serve 12 months imprisonment in hard labour

Prosecuting, Police Detective Chief Inspector Oscar Amponsah told the court presided by Mr. Samuel Obeng Diawuo that on May 13, the complainant, James Tetteh, a driver of the MMT was assigned to drive a bus from Takoradi to Juabeso.

He said when he was about to take off from the main station, he was asked to pick one passenger at Simpa junction.

On reaching Simpa junction, one person rushed to board the bus to Juabeso and the accused person who was also at Simpa and armed with a catapult, attempted to join the bus.

Chief Inspector Amponsah said the conductor told the accused person that the vehicle was full and tried to lock the door.

He said Addo held the door preventing him from doing so, but some young men on board managed to pull him aside for the bus to continue its journey.

Chief Inspector Amponsah said when the vehicle was moving, the accused person used his catapult which hit the back glass of the bus and damaged it.

The accused person was arrested and handed over to the Police.
