Half Assini Hospital calls for assistance from citizens

Takoradi, March 31, GNA --- Authorities of the Half Assini Government Hospital have appealed to all citizens of the area, home and abroad, to assist the Hospital.

A statement issued by the Hospital and signed by the Administrator, Mr Paul Agyakwa and copied to the GNA in Takoradi, said the hospital lacked vital facilities needed for quality health care delivery.

The statement said several appeals to the government had not been successful therefore the onus rested on the citizens to ensure that the only government hospital serving a large community did not become helpless in times of emergency.

It expressed regret that the Hospital, which offers service to the whole district to the border town of Elubo and the eastern part of Cote dIvoire, had only one medical doctor who attends to an average of 183 patients daily as well as those on admission.

The statement said the Hospital, established in 1974, had not been fenced thus exposing it to thieves and stray animals and there is no adequate accident and emergency centre, forcing authorities to convert some structures to serve that purpose.

It said the casualty unit receives about 12 patients daily mostly children and pregnant women who sit in chairs to receive infusions because of inadequate beds.

The statement said the problems had been brought to the notice health authorities but nothing had been done.

We are, therefore, calling on the Western Nzema and Half-Assini Traditional councils as well as the Jomoro District Assembly and all citizens to support the Hospital, it said.

The statement described the situation as unacceptable as it affected efficiency and added if nothing is done and in case of major accident or emergency cases, there is no doubt that the Hospital will be helpless.
