March 11, GNA - Two philanthropists have partnered Vicky Vans Company Limited,
dealers in spare parts at Tema, to donate educational materials worth 160,000 Pound
Sterlings to three public schools at Asuboni in the Kwahu West Municipality of
the Eastern Region.
The philanthropists are Mr and Mrs Van- Der- Ven and family from Holland; and the schools are Asuboni M/A, Monsie M/A and Aweregya M/A Primary schools.
The items presented to the schools are books, desks, swivel chairs, tricycles, pens and pencils, white boards, markers, sports jerseys, footballs and other recreational items.
At a mini durbar to donate the items to the beneficiary schools, Mr Van- Der- Ven said the gesture forms part of their social responsibility programme in promoting quality teaching and learning in deprived schools across the country.
He said the selected schools would be supported annually for a period of five years to ensure that they get to a befitting standard.
Mr Van-Der-Ven said their donation would not be limited to only educational materials but would be extended to other fields such as health.
He thanked Mr Eric Frimpong, a mining consultant, for highlighting the needs of the schools adding that it is their first visit to the country.
Mr Van-Der-Ven urged the students to obey their teachers and learn hard so that they can become useful citizens to their community.
Mr Bright Moses Oppong, the Headteacher of Asuboni M/A Junior High School (JHS), who received the items on behalf of the schools, commended the philanthropists and family for the items and promised to take good care of them.
