"Criticise sports administrators constructively" - Sports Minister tells Media

By Edna A. Quansah, GNA

Accra, Feb. 11, GNA – Mr. Curtis Perry Okudjeto, the Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports (MOYS), has called on sports journalists to criticise sports administrators constructively rather than "placing the sports in a bad light”.

The Deputy Minister said this during an engagement with the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC) and press attaches of the various sports federations.

According to him, as Ghana prepares to host the 2023 Africa Games, it provides a platform to market the country to the world adding that "Sports is business but unfortunately the media is putting it in a bad light”.

He said when sports administrators err, sports journalists should criticise them but with decorum.

"When administrators are doing wrong, you have to talk about it but it should be done with sanity."

Mr Okudjeto said government was committed to support the sporting disciplines and would ensure that adequate facilities were provided for the Africa Games.

"We are preparing to host the rest of Africa for the Africa Games and this gives us the opportunity to groom athletes and improve on our facilities. Government would ensure there are facilities for all the disciplines," he said.

Mr Okudjeto mentioned that, sports binds people together hence corporate involvement, however, if it's not packaged well, the corporate entities steps out.

He called on the media to collaborate with the GOC and all the various federations on how to package sports to attract corporate sponsorship, adding that the MOYS would partner GOC and federations to revive school sports.
