Residence of Bawku undergo health screening

Bawku (U/E) Feb. 7, GNA – About seven hundred people in the Bawku Municipality have benefitted from a free medical screening for various conditions.  

The exercise, which was conducted by a team of health professionals, including Ophthalmic nurses from the Bawku Presbyterian Eye Clinic, screened for malaria, Blood Pressure (BP), diabetes and eye tests, among others.

Some of the beneficiaries, who were mostly the elderly, received treatments and vital medical advice on how to live healthy lives.

Mr Mbawuni Bakutoma, a Member of the Atlanta Chapter of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the United States of America (USA), who organized the exercise, said health screening exercises were important to promote and ensure a healthy society.

He said the programme provided safe and proper healthcare services to the aged and other vulnerable groups in the Municipality, and admonished members of the public to regularly visit health facilities to check on their health status, exercise regularly, drink more water, eat well balanced diets, have enough rest and avoid self-medication.

Public Health Nurses, who were part of the team, reiterated the need for members of the public to avoid drug abuse and to heed the advice given by Mr Bakautoma.

Mr Tahiru Kundiimah, Assembly Member for the Possum Electoral Area in the Bawku Municipality, expressed gratitude to Mr Bakutoma on behalf of the beneficiaries.

Mr Bakutoma is a leading member of the NPP in the Bawku Municipality, and has expressed interest in contesting the Parliamentary Primaries of the ruling party in the Bawku Central Constituency.
