UG College of Health Sciences seeks funds to upgrade its library

By Kodjo Adams, GNA

Accra, Feb. 5, GNA - The University of Ghana College of Health Sciences has organised a fundraising ceremony in Accra to redevelop its library to meet modern standards.

The library would be digitally and physically refurbished to make it more user-friendly for research and learning purposes and encourage students to research more and become abreast with current and global literature.

The Project is estimated at more than GH¢ 1.6 million.

The Reverend Professor Patrick Ayeh-Kumi, the Provost of the College of Health Sciences, University of Ghana, said the College would furnish the empty spaces into comfortable seating and create special areas to encourage active intellectual discourse.

The Professor said the College was faced with lot of challenges, including financial, infrastructure, and equipment and could not wait on the Government for all their needs to be addressed, hence the fundraising event.

There were other projects, he said, for the College to undertake to enhance teaching, learning and research and, therefore, urged Ghanaians especially ALUMNI to support by contributing towards the library project.

Prof Ayeh-Kumi said with the restructuring of the University under the collegiate system of governance in 2014, the College had to be restructured to conform to the changes of the new governance system.

The College consists of School of Medicine and Dentistry, School of Biomedical and Allied Health Sciences, School of Nursing and Midwifery, School of Pharmacy and Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research.

Mrs Theodosia Adanu, the College Liberian, said the plan for the project was to create more spaces by reducing the shelves to augment reading space and stock it with relevant up-to-date literatures.

The College was established in 1999, as an amalgamation of the various institutions that train health professionals in the University.
