President in Tamale for new Ya-Na's enskinment

Tamale (N/R), Jan. 24, GNA- President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo Thursday touched down in Tamale to a tumultuous welcome ahead of the enskinment of the new Ya-Naa of Dagbon, Yo-Na Abubakari Mahama on Friday, January 25,2019.

Yo-Na Mahama, originally the paramount chief of Savelugu, was selected from four other chiefs by the kingmakers of Dagbon on January 18, 2019, as the New overlord of the traditional area after the successful completion of the final funeral rights of the late Ya-Na Yakubu Andani.

The investure of the regent would end an almost 18-year fued between the Abudu and Andani Royal families of the Dagbon State when Ya-Naa Andani was murdered tragically in 2002 by unknown assailants. That development left Dagbon Skin vacant, as both sides clamored for who succeeded the late regent.

President Akufo-Addo who arrived the northern regional capital to an euphoric atmosphere, was met at the Tamale Airport by the Northern regional minister Salifu Saeed, defence Minister Dominic Nitiwul, Interior Minister Ambrose Dery, the Information Minister Kojo Oppong Nkrumah and  many citizens of the Dagbon traditional area.

As the President's convoy moved from airport to the Tamale town, tens of thousands of people who had lined the streets mobbed the motorcade, showering praises and appellations on the President for fulfilling his pledge to seeking lasting peace and reconciliation for the Dagbon traditional area.

As the convoy moved into town, many more people poured onto the streets, expressing unhibited excitement, branshing placards that bore inscriptions depicting the overwhelming historic moment that was unfolding in Yendi.

The historic Friday ceremony would be witnessed by eminent  traditional rulers, and representatives from all life's walk. The Yendi area is already abuzz with activities, as many Dagbon citizens from across the country and beyond have been arriving by the numbers to experience the once-in-a-lifetime event.

President Akufo-Addo in the run-up to the 2016 elections, promised unity, peace and progress for the Dagbon area, and relentlessly pursued that agenda that had culminated in both sides of the conflict agreeing to work together to resolve their differences to ensure lasting peace and stability in that area.
