Akyem Swedru Court adjourns cocoa theft case

Akyem Swedru (E/R), Aug. 9, GNA – The Akyem Swedru Circuit Court presided by Mr Alexander Oworea has adjourned trial against one Abena Ohenewa, a Purchasing of Clerk of Nyonkopa Buying Limited accused of stealing 9 cocoa bags to August 17, this year.

The court on January 20, this year, ordered the witness, Mr Emmanuel Gyasi, the Oda District Manager of Nyonkopa Buying Limited, to produce exhibits of nine bags of cocoa beans suspected to have beeen stolen by Abena Ohenewa on the next adjourned date on July 23, but he failed to appear together with the items on Thursday.

Chief Inspector Sallas Fabian, Prosecuting, said it would be recalled that, the complainant Mr Kwabena Oppong, a Purchasing Clerk of Adwumapa Buying Company at Akyem Batabi on November 11, 2016 reported to the Oda Police that nine bags of cocoa beans had been stolen from his shed at Akyem Batabi in the Eastern Region.

Chief Inspector Fabian said the complainant indicated that he suspected a group of young men who had stolen the bags of the cocoa beans and had sold same to Abena Ohenewa.

He said during police investigation on that same day 25 bags of cocoa were found in the shed of Ohenewa, and the complainant identified nine of the bags as his, and when the suspect was questioned of her source of the bags of the cocoa beans she could not explain.

Chief Inspector Fabian said the accused records book also showed that between November 4, and 6, 2016, she made purchases of six bags of cocoa beans which were short of 19 bags and therefore the Police arrested her and conveyed the bags of cocoa beans to the Police Station.

He said after the Police investigation Ohenewa was charged and arraigned.
