“My job is not to follow the Black Stars” – Youth and Sports Minister

Navrongo, May 14, GNA – Mr. Isaac Asiamah, Minister for Youth and Sports, has said his job is to seek the general interest of all sporting disciplines and not to follow only the Black Stars.

“My job is not to follow Black Stars when they are going for tournaments and international friendly matches. My job is to sit, think and create something for the ministry,” Mr Asiamah said.

He said the days when the senior national team the Black Stars was given much attention over other sporting disciplines were over.

“This government would invest into sports infrastructure and development and that is what I am doing.

“Our job as a government is to ensure that the talents in the country can grow and their skills could become more profitable for the nation. And we have to give them the necessary facilities so that they can develop,” the minister said this during the sod-cutting ceremony to commencement the construction a Multipurpose Youth Resource Center in Navrongo, the capital of Kassena-Nankana District in the Upper East Region

According to the minister, his primary focus for the sector was to develop sports by investing in sports infrastructure.

The ten facilities that would be built in all the ten regions, with an eight-lane athletic track, FIFA standard pitch, tennis court, basketball court, handball court, fully furnished gym, counselling unit, ICT section, entrepreneurship centre and restaurant.

The projects, when completed would serve as a youth training and development centre and forms part of the ‘One Region One Youth Centre’ by the Youth and Sports Ministry in an attempt to boost the sporting industry.

Each of the facilities would cost $1.8 million and is expected to take nine months for completion of each.
