By Dennis Peprah, GNA

Sunyani, March 9, GNA - Mr Michael Osei Boateng, the Brong-Ahafo Regional Director of the Youth Employment Authority (YEA) has  called on members of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) to sell government flagship programmes geared towards job creation and poverty reduction.

He said still it was unfortunate that many Ghanaians were still ignorant of some government flagship programmes and did not understand reasons behind the implementations of these programmes.

"This is why some of our political opponents have taken advantage of, and are unnecessarily politicising and critiquing the implementation of those projects", he said.

In an interview with the Ghana News Agency in Sunyani, Mr Boateng said the “NPP holds the future of Ghanaians”, and the party ought to remain in government for a longer period to make these programmes successful and help alleviate the plight to the citizenry.

He said if majority of Ghanaians understand the concept of the introduction and implementation the Planting for Food and Jobs, One-District-One-factor (1D1F), free Senior High School, and others they would support and benefit from them.

Mr Boateng, who declared his intention to contest for the Brong-Ahafo Regional Youth position of the NPP said government was doing extremely good in the area of job creation in the region.

He said the YEA has introduced a new farming project which was a flagship programme and in the next two months the Agency would employ more than 3,500 youth under that module.

He said 1,400 young men and women in the region have already been engaged under the Community Protection Personnel module of the Agency adding that 58 Monitoring and Evaluation officers had also been employed.

Mr Boateng, popularly known as “Pope”, said the YEA was designing additional new modules, to engage both literate and illiterate, graduates and under-graduates and entreated the teeming unemployed youth to exercise restraint.

He said government needs the support of all the Ghanaians including civil society organizations and the media in the national reconstruction processes.

Partisan politics, Mr Boateng added, has caused the nation dearly, as it remained the bane of socio-economic development, and lobbied the support of all opposition political parties in the country, as government creates a safe haven for socio-economic growth and accelerated national development.
