NGOs cut-sod for toilet facility for Akim Swedru SHS

Akim Swedru (E/R), Jan. 31, GNA – A group of non-governmental organisations had jointly performed a ground breaking ceremony for the commencement of the construction of an ultra-modern toilet facility for the Akim Swedru Senior High School (AKISSS).

The 24-seater facility is estimated to cost 150,000 Ghana cedis.

The organisations are the Ghana Council – Belgium, City of Antwerp, AKISS Alumni, FOS, and the Community Livelihood Support Organisation (COLISO).

The NGOs are undertaking developmental projects in four regions of the country, namely Western, Ashanti, Brong-Ahafo and Eastern regions.

Mr Richmond Amponsah, the Birim South District Chief Executive commended the group for the great work they have been doing in the country to improve the health and education of the people.

He said the support of the group has helped to reduce the workload on the assemblies and had also enhanced the quality of life of the citizenry.

Mr Kwaku Acheampong, the President of the Ghana Council – Belgium in an interview with the Ghana News Agency said their gesture was upon a request made by the AKISSS Alumni to assist the school with the facility.

He gave the assurance that the Ghanaian community in Belgium was fully prepared to lend assistance to the country when the need arose to address some of the problems in society.

He said work on the project would start in February and expected to be completed in July 2018.

Mr Isaac Asare, the Chairman of COLISO said they have join hands together to work as a group so as to improve the quality of life of the people.

Reverend Dr Benzies Isaac Adu Okoree, the Chairman of the Board of Governors of the school expressed gratitude to the group for their assistance and assured that they would cooperate with the contractor to ensure quality work.

Madam Elizabeth Ama Asamoah, the Headmistress of AKISSS said the poor state of the toilet facility in the school had been her burden over the years and noted she was thankful to the group for their intervention.   

Nana Kwartema Minkyim II, the Queenmother of Akyem Bosome Traditional Area and a representative of the City of Antwerp and Rev Dr Okoree performed the sod-cutting.
