DGI Foundation/NCPWD organises medical screening for PWDs

Accra, Dec 4, GNA - Divine Group International Foundation (DGI Foundation) in partnership with National Council for Persons with Disability (NCPWD) has organised a medical screening exercise for persons with disability to mark World Disability Day.

The World Disability Day is marked on December 3 every year.

A statement signed by Mr Ebenezer Kofi Adu-Lartey, the Chief Executive Director of DGl Foundation and copied to the Ghana News Agency said over 100 physically challenged persons, comprising the deaf, dumb, blind, cerebral palsy were tested for BMI, malaria, hepatitis B, typhoid fever, and syphilis.

The statement said doctors at post gave free medical advice to persons who passed through the medical exercise.

Some persons were diagnosed with Hepatitis B while others had high Blood pressure.

The statement said some cases were referred to physiotherapists who attended to individuals with knee and waist problems.

It said 63 per cent of people screened complained of general body pain, with 10 per cent having waist problems which they attributed to the physical nature of their work; bag weaving.

The statement said every patient at the medical outreach was provided with dewormers.

The statement said seven volunteers from the National Council for Persons with Disability were available to support, making a total volunteer corps of 13.

It said the programme was funded by DGI clinic and NCDWP.

Mr Adu-Lartey called on more organisations and benevolent groups to support the cause of persons with disability.
