Accra, Nov 1, GNA, GNA - The La Dadekotopon Municipal Assembly (LADMA) has donated 300 pieces of mono-desks to the La Presbyterian Senior High School in Accra.

The presentation was in response to media reportage over the school’s lack of furniture, which compelled newly admitted students to sit on cement blocks and gallons during class sessions.

Mrs Gladys Tsotsoo Mann-Dedey, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), in an interview with the Ghana News Agency reiterated the Government’s commitment to improving infrastructure in schools to enhance teaching and learning.

She recounted that during her last visit to the school, she observed that the desks were not in good shape and therefore, promised to support the school.

“Our children are the future leaders and should learn in a good environment,” she added.

Mrs Mann-Dedey said she was hopeful that the desks presented to the school, would be put into good use and give the student some comfort.  She noted that the donation forms part of the assembly’s commitment to educational development using its internally generated funds.

The MCE said the Assembly made provision of 500 mono-desks, as such, any school in need of desks within the municipality would definitely get support.

Mrs Bernice Aduo Addae, the La Dadekotopon Municipal Director of Education, who received the donation on behalf of the School, expressed gratitude to LADMA and the MCE for their kind gesture.

She said the timely intervention is a clear demonstration of the MCE’s commitment in highlighting the importance of education in national development.

Ms Addae said that in terms of academic performance within the Municipality, there had been a turning around for the better.

She explained that they held a school performance appraisal meeting last year, during which all heads of department were tasked to encourage their teachers, sit up.

Mrs Aduo Addae said the academic performance in the Municipality has improved remarkably.
