April 20, GNA – Agyewodin Professor Adu Gyamfi Ampem, the Paramount Chief of
Acherensua in the Asutifi South District of Brong-Ahafo Region, has appealed to
the President to help them to develop the Acherensua Senior High School
(ACHESCO).
He said the school
was in urgent need of modern science laboratory, library, boys and girls
dormitories and a pick up vehicle.
Agyewodin Prof
Ampem made the appeal when President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo paid a visit
to the Acherensua SHS on Wednesday.
He was accompanied
by Mr Albert Kan Dapaah, the Minister of National Security and an old student
of the school, Mr Kwadwo Alan Kyeremanten, Minister of Trade, Mr Ignatius
Baffour-Awuah, Minister of Employment and Labour Relations, and Mrs Freda
Prempeh, Deputy Minister of Works and Housing.
The President and
his entourage including some members of Parliament and other Ministers of State
were returning from Goaso after he had concluded the official launch the
“Planting for Food and Jobs” campaign.
Agyewodin Prof
Ampem said ACHESCO was among the oldest schools in the country adding that it
has churned out several students who occupy responsible positions in governance
and other sectors of the country.
He expressed
unhappiness with the current state of the school and appealed to the President
to help address the teething challenges confronting the school.
Responding to the
plea, President Akufo-Addo affirmed his commitment to implement the Free Senor
High School policy in September this year.
The President
assured the chief that he would personally follow and ensure that the school
gets especially a befitting science laboratory.
He said his
government has placed premium and recognised science and technology as a
critical component towards nation building.
He rallied the
support of traditional rulers towards the national reconstruction processes.
Earlier, Mr Kwaku
Asomah-Cheremeh, the Brong-Ahafo Regional Minister, commended the chiefs and
people on Acherensua for their support which ensured victory for the NPP in
2016.
