Kumasi, April 20, GNA - The Attorney General’s Department has called for the docket on the case involving the alleged assault of the Ashanti Regional Security Coordinator by 13 members of a group calling itself the “Delta Force”, and reported to be aligned with the governing New Patriotic Party.
Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Asumadu Okyere-Darko informed the KMA Circuit Court, when the accused persons appeared before it on Wednesday.
The Presiding Judge, Mrs. Mary Nsenkyire, consequently adjourned the case to May 18.
The accused – Salu Issaka, Kofi Kyei, Hamza Mohammed, Kwabena Owusu, Akwasi Owusu, Abubakar Saddiq, Yussif Saliu, Kwadwo Bamba, Salu Yussif, Kwaku Awotwi, Kwadwo Boadu, Jamil Issah and Awal Sadat Abubakar are facing charges of assault, causing unlawful damage and preventing a public officer from executing his duty.
They have all pleaded not guilty and are each on a GH¢10,000.00 bail with two sureties to be justified.
They have additionally been reporting to the police once every week.
The accused were said to have attacked the victim, Mr. George Adjei, on March 23, at the Regional Coordinating Council and damaged some office equipment.
There was drama, the first day they appeared before the KMA Circuit Court as some of their colleagues stormed the courtroom to free them after the judge had remanded them in prison.
They later handed themselves in, were tried on a fresh charge of escaping from lawful custody and punished.
They were sentenced to a total fine of GH¢31,200.00 and made to sign a bond to be of good behaviour for six months. In breach of this, they would spend three years in prison.
