By Robert Anane/Elizabeth Fosu, GNA

Accra, March 20, GNA - The country’s universities and other tertiary Institutions, have been urged to collaborate with businesses with the aim of gaining first-hand knowledge of the kinds of skills and expertise needed in the present day job market.

This would help the institutions come up with relevant subjects that would equip young graduates with employable skills.

Mr Tang Hong, Chairman of the Ghana Association of Chinese Societies and the Ghana Chinese Chamber of Commerce, said this in an interview with the Ghana News Agency(GNA) at the 2017 Campus Recruitment Fair by Chinese Enterprises in Ghana.

The fair was held at the University of Ghana-Legon, over the weekend.

He said the fair offered students and other young people, the opportunity to have a first-hand feel of some existing Chinese businesses in the country and the opportunities these businesses had on offer.

Mr Tang who is also the Vice President of the Ghana-China Friendship Association and Chairman of the CAITEC Group of Companies, said the graduates and other job seekers would through the fair, have an idea of how to prepare themselves for the Chinese job market in the country, which he said held lots of opportunities for Ghanaians who had the needed skills.

The fair, which attracted scores of Chinese companies, was patronised by a number of students and graduates, with many having first hand promises of employment.

A number of officials of the Chinese companies that the GNA spoke to, said their aim was to contribute what they could, towards improving upon the socio-economic environment in the country.

Mr Mu Hao of the China Railway NO.5 Engineering Ghana Limited, said: “We are looking for mutual gains. We help build a brighter Ghana, then our companies can also thrive in success,” he said.

The fair was collaboration between the Confucius Institute at the University of Ghana, Sunda-Ghana Real Estates Company Limited and the Ghana Chinese News.

It was participated by university students, degree holders and other tertiary students and graduates.
