Ho, Dec. 05, GNA - Santrokofi, Akpafu, Likpe and Lolobi traditional areas, also known as (SALL) would join eight other districts for the referendum on the creation of Oti Region on December 27, Mr Dogbe Selormey, Volta Regional Director of the Electoral Commission said on Tuesday.
The districts are; Biakoye, Jasikan, Kadjebi, Krachi East, Krachi West, Krachi Nchumuru, Nkwanta North and Nkwanta South.
Mr Selormey at a stakeholders’ forum said though some of the four traditional areas boycotted the limited registration and exhibition exercises by the Commission, they were being engaged by the Peace Council and other stakeholders to participate in the referendum.
“It is true that some boycotted the limited registration and exhibition exercises but many people there already have their names in the register. Some also went to the district offices to register, so we are appealing to them to come out and vote. A lot of work is going on,” he said.
He said provisions had been made for proxy voting, vote transfers and special voting, but all must be done within time and asked groups who would want to observe or be counting agents to apply to the Commission.
Mr David Normanyo, Volta Regional Executive Secretary, National Peace Council, said the Council was engaging the four traditional areas to be peaceful before, during and after the referendum.
Mr Peter Gyimah, Deputy Volta Regional Police Commander, said the Police had identified some flashpoints in connection with the referendum and security is being beef- up at those spots.
